The After School Arts Program offers children ages 9 to 14yrs, to enhance their creativity, give them basic technical skills and body awareness. It is designed for people who want to dance but are not aiming for a career in dance. Dance develops self esteem, joy and confidence, clear focus and can boost school grades up to 75 %. It can be fun, uplifting, exciting, breathtaking, fantastic, and enriching. Dance helps develop a greater sense of rhythm, flexibility and coordination that stimulates imagination.

Margot Fonteyn Academy continues to lead in the area of dance education.  We believe that every child should be able to let their imagination flourish through the performing arts. 

These programs include: Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, African Dance, Character Dances and Drama/Acting.

Ballet Level A (Ages 9-11 yr.):  Classical ballet based on a syllabus of gradual progression designed to increase ability, stamina, and discipline.

Ballet Level B (Ages 12-14 yr.):  More complicated and demanding exercises.

Jazz: Jazz is a dance idiom combining classic influenced contemporary movement with various period styles.  Basic technique of Jazz will utilize established rhythms and steps with emphasis on style. With its origins in American music developed from ragtime and blues, Jazz is one of the most popular and energetic forms of dance. Jazz, which is characterized by its syncopated rhythms and improvisation, offers the dance student a challenging training.

Hip Hop: A mixture of Jazz and Street Dance. The Hip Hop program provides students fun and challenging opportunities to express themselves creatively through this urban/street dance style. Classes consist of a warm up before moving into technical foundational work.                                   

African Dance: African dance refers to a form of performing art found among most cultures of Sub-Saharan Africa. Still practiced today, it involves rhythmic body movements combined with music and sometimes theatrical representations. There are as many forms of African dance as there are human groups.                                                   

Character Dances: This course acquaints all students with traditional forms of dancing such as The Polonaise, Mazurka and other formal and folk dances of the past.                                                               

Drama/Theater: A study of acting, voice and dance moves with emphasis on character study.  Learn and gain confidence and stage presence.
