Sveinbjörg Alexanders

Ms. Alexanders has been on artistic advisory committee of MFAB since 2003, director of The Margot Fonteyn Academy of Ballet Lower School since 2012 and Dean of Artists Internationally for MFAB since 2019. Her Career spans more than three decades, as a member of the Stuttgart Ballet in Germany and a Principal dancer of the Tanz-Forum Ballet of the Cologne Opera House. Ms. Alexanders has performed countless principal roles in both classical as well as contemporary ballets and has worked with many of the world's greatest choreographers including: John Cranko, George Balanchine, Hans van Manen, Glen Tetley, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Helmut Bauman, Jurg Burth, Gray Veredon, Jochen Ulrich and Kurt Joos amongst others. She has done world tours with companies, including performing at the Metropolitan Opera Houses in New York, Montreal, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Oslo, Rio de Janeiro, Hong Kong, Athens, Kairo, Rom, Paris, London etc.

 
 

Ms. Alexanders trained in: Bournonville technique at the National Theater of Reykjavik in Iceland, her home country, performing in Ballets, Operas, Operettas and Theater. She got her training and teachers certificates in R.A.D. (Royal Academy of Dancing) at the Royal Ballet School in London. She received her Benesh Dance Notation Certificate at the Royal Ballet School in London and her Vaganova Teaching Certificate at the School of the Hartford Ballet.

Ms. Alexanders has worked as a Ballet Master and a Academy Principal at the Nevada Ballet Theatre. She has also been a Ballet Master at The Mannheim Ballet, a Guest Instructor for the Colorado Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, School of the Hartford Ballet, The Theater of the West Berlin, and as faculty at the University of Munich, visiting professor at the University of South Florida and the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School. In addition she has also taught Modern technique (Martha Graham) at the Munich University and the John Cranko School in Stuttgart. She has been on the jury of the international dance competitions in Luxembourg.

Ms. Alexanders has choreographed ballets, including Carmen with the Principal dancers of the Joffrey Ballet in the title roles. She has also choreographed for operas, plays, television shows, musicals and devotional Dance pieces, as well as staging numerous ballets from other choreographers.

Ms. Alexanders has had an opportunity to work as a stage actress in several title roles in plays by Tennessee Williams, Jean Cocteau and Marguerite Duras.
